Senator Taylor Appoints McCorkell of Tulsa to Board

President Pro Tempore Stratton Taylor
has appointed Don McCorkell as a member of the Education Oversight Board. McCorkell is a Tulsa
businessman and an attorney and served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1978 to 1996.
McCorkell earned a reputation as an innovative reform legislator during his eighteen years
of service by sponsoring legislation providing for education deregulation and changes in teacher
education and licensure. He also led efforts in nursing home reform, guardianship reform, and
restructuring of the state's services for children, as well as being the author of major ethics and
environmental legislation.
He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (1969) and a doctorate (1973) from the
University of Tulsa. He is also certified as an "Economic Development Finance Professional" and as a
Mediator. He has been a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association since 1974.
McCorkell was appointed to fulfill the term of resigned member Grant Hall, which expires in
June of 2003.
The Education Oversight Board governs the
Office of Accountability and oversees the Oklahoma School Testing Program
and the Oklahoma Educational Indicators Program created by House
Bill 1017.
